The course on methods for teaching Russian as a foreign language has come to an end. The majority of the students were our colleagues - teachers of foreign languages who wanted to gain a specialisation for teaching Russian as a foreign language. The lectures and practical sessions helped them to attain fundamental knowledge in this area. The group of students was active and creative, and as their tutor M. S. Rozina, a senior teacher of Lomonsov Moscow State University said, it was very interesting to work with them. The next course on methods for teaching Russian as a foreign language will begin on the 27th of August.

Some pleasant news - Yandex and Eurostroi are now our clients. Yet there is even better news: Russians want to learn Russian! Employees from Yandex have decided to perfect their native language and take courses in practical Russian stylistics, whilst a group of employees from Eurostroi has chosen business Russian.

im1In June, the regular programme for British students came to an end. They were our first group of graduating students who came here to study on a year-long course. On the 4th of July a traditional Russian tea-drinking session was held, where the students performed short plays and thanked their teachers. As always it was lively and interesting, although it was sad to part with students who had become so close to us over the year.

In April, a two-week intensive course on methods for teaching Russian as a foreign language was finished. By listening to lectures given by M. S. Rozina, a senior teacher at Moscow State University, the professional teachers improved their levels of qualification. Considering the audience’s professional training, the course was based on practice instead of theory: modelling and structuring lessons and discussion of aspect orientated teaching with an emphasis on communicative methods of teaching. At the end of the course the listeners received certificates. The next course will begin on the 1st of July and will run for 30 academic hours.

    March

news On the 1st of March a remarkable event took place. For the first time in the history of the RLUS programme, a meeting was held between British students and their Russian counterparts. Students from the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering, the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia and other institutes of higher education responded eagerly to the Russian as a Foreign Language Department's invitation to organise and hold a meeting.
24 students from Great Britain and 22 students from Russia took part in the event. The meeting began with tea and pancakes because the 1st of March was the last day of Maslenitsa (the week before Lent). The students, who were conversing with ease, moved into a large room where the young teachers from the RLUS programme, E. Stremova and O. Kharina and the Academic Director of the Russian as a Foreign Language Department, E. M. Kallo awaited them.
The students of the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering invited their British colleagues to visit their university locomotive museum and university sports complex with the possibility of playing a football match. Finally, the students swapped numbers and created an LL- Friendship group on Facebook.
